Noticeboard October 9th 2017

This weeks’ judge for our projected image competition is Barbara Lyddiatt and I have been reliably informed that there are 60 images to be shown, so it should prove interesting.

I’m cheating today by doing a bit of cutting and pasting of some emails I have received which I thought may be of some interest to you.

1. From Tom our treasurer.

Please ask members to refrain from disposing of their old £1 coins when paying for tea and coffee over the next couple of weeks or so. They cease to be legal tender from 15th October (I think that is the date) and it would be helpful if FEPS were not to be lumbered with these. Perhaps you could suggest that they use them instead in Tesco before the expiry date. Tesco seem to have an unofficial policy of dumping them back on the general public to avoid their duty of disposing of them through their bank!

If members (or anyone else) wish to pay for the trip to Winchester on 21st October, then they may do so by cash (not old £1 coins!!!) or cheque. Alternatively, they can pay by bank transfer into FEPS's bank account (AC No.01058029 Sort Code 30-98-91), but provide proof of payment by printing off a copy of the on-line transaction from their computer or provide any other legitimate documentation e.g. you may have something on your phone that you could show me. I'm otherwise unable to easily verify payment until I receive the next bank statement.

2. Viveca Koh on ‘Layers and Textures’ at Chalfonts and Gerrards Cross Camera Club.

I’m writing to offer you the opportunity to attend a one day workshop to be given by accomplished photographer, Viveca Koh on ‘Layers and Textures’ at Chalfonts and Gerrards Cross Camera Club. The workshop will be held in Room 1 of The Memorial Centre, East Common, Gerrards Cross, SL9 7AD on Saturday 28th October from 10am until 16:30/17:00. The cost is £48.

Viveca has given two brilliant talks at CGXCC in the past and is now coming along to teach on a workshop, the aim of which is to give a clearer understanding of working with Photoshop layers, layer masks and blending modes, and to introduce you to working with textures as separate layers on top of your photographs, in order to create enhanced and creative images.

Please find attached full details of the workshop.

If you would like to take this spare place or if you know anyone who would, could you please let me know as soon as possible by emailing me

3. Hemel Hempstead Photographic Society 80th Anniversary Lecture Friday 17th November

Dear Friends

We are delighted to have secured William Cheung FRPS to speak at our very special 80th Anniversary Lecture to be held on Friday 17th November at the Bennetts End Community Centre, 24 Bennetts End Road, Hemel Hempstead HP3 8EW. Will is well known to many of you and has been a member of the specialist photographic press for 30 years. He is currently editing Photography News, a free tabloid-sized monthly newspaper. His talk is called “My Passion for Photography” and is very much about encouraging members to take pictures for themselves and enjoy their camera, while aiming to improve their work. It should be a fascinating evening.

Tickets are £10 per person. If you are interested please contact me and I can let you know of the payment arrangements. Could I also encourage you to mention this lecture to your own club members and a copy of our flyer is attached.

I shall look forward to seeing you this Wednesday.

Cheerio for now,
