Congratulations to Sarah Keates from Massachusetts, USA with this winning image entitled 'Piping plover chick finds a shell'.

Sarah tell us ''That is exciting news!!! Thanks so much, I'm truly honored!''

"The Piping plovers are a threatened species and protected by state and federal law. In Massachusetts, steps are taken each year to provide areas of the shoreline so that the birds can successfully breed. Piping plover chicks are able to feed themselves one day after hatching: these tiny chicks dash around the beach looking for food, usually with their parents nearby keeping a watchful eye. In this case, the chick was extremely interested in a shell that had washed up on the beach and went to investigate; this is my favorite shot from that encounter."
